Critically evaluate the supply chain issues and problems in the “Horse Meat” scandal that has happened in Europe early 2013. You are required to visit the media in order to understand the problem and also identify the key supply chain related issues that caused this scandal. Then, you will critically analyse these issues by using academic sources with the support of the lecture and seminar material and also your own understanding of the lectures and literature review. It is also important to focus on different aspects of supply chain management practices that could help to avoid or solve the problems identified. You need consistent attendance at lectures and seminars to get an idea about some of the scandal-related issues.

Task 2 (Max 900 Words) (30% Mark)

Critically evaluate how performance measurement, sourcing, lean , TQM and Six Sigma can develop cost efficiency, high service quality and customer satisfaction in the global “Ready Meal” logistics network of “Tesco Supermarkets” in both, the upstream and the downstream supply chain. You are required to look at these elements individually, and recommend the best option to meet the cost efficiency, the high service quality and the customer satisfaction objectives underpinned by a theoretical justification. You need consistent attendance at lectures and seminars to get an idea about some of the theories.

Task 3 (Max 800 Words) (30% Mark)

Critically evaluate the interface of the three - dimensional sustainability issues of the “Horse Meat Scandal” with developing a cost effective, high quality and reliable global “Ready Meal” logistics network for both, an upstream and a downstream perspective in Tesco Supermarkets. This includes a positive and negative correlation between the sustainability dimensions in relation to the “Horse Meat Scandal” and developing a low operation cost, a high quality and a high customer satisfaction in the “Ready Meal” supply chain from the “farm” to the “fork”. You need consistent attendance at lectures and seminars to get an idea about some of the theories.

-          10% of the marks are assigned to the presentation of the assignment and also to referencing (references must be minimum 30 and good quality journal articles and books). It is strongly advised to use references appropriately in the text by using them where required. Also consider that some references may be used more than once in the text. Therefore, it is not just the matter of the quantity, it is also the matter of the quality of the references that are used and how you used them). 

-           10% of the marks are assigned to the executive summary (Max 500 words).

This is about an overall understanding about these three tasks. The integration of these three tasks in the summary is important. You are required to have a very good understanding of all of these questions to link them together in summary.
