Read
Unilever’s code
Print
it off and prepare answers to these questions for discussion at the seminar:
- Why does the
section on Employees emphasise Unilever’s commitment to diversity?
- In the
Shareholder section what do “principles of good corporate governance”
mean?
- In the section
on Public Activities Unilever says it will “co-operate with governments” –
how do you see the relationship between governments and firms such as
Unilever?
- In the section
on Competition what do you think “principles of fair competition mean”?
- In the section
on Business Integrity there is a very strong statement against bribery –
what are the implications of this statement for doing business around the
world? Do you believe that you would offer or accept a bribe if you worked
for a company which didn’t make such a clear statement?
- The last
paragraph encourages staff to report breaches of the code – do you know
the word we usually use to describe such a process? What obstacles to
doing this might exist in some organisations?
- If you look at the totality of the effect of the code what word best describes Unilever’s approach to the management of its activities?
